The Ducati 749s has all of the technology that makes the Superbike family unique. The 748 cc Testastretta engine provides 116 horsepower at 10,500 rpm and torque of 8.4 kgm (60.8 ft.lbs.) at 8,500 rpm that can even be used at very low revs, resulting in excellent track performance and easy handling on the road. It is a safe and pleasurable ride in all conditions.
High engine revs are allowed by a special valve retainer collet system used to secure the steel intake and exhaust valves. The system is also used on the R versions as well as the World Superbike and MotoGP race engines.
The L-twin Testastretta engines are very compact, making the finished motorcycles incredibly narrow and agile, much like their racing cousins. They also offer excellent torque and remarkably vigorous power delivery compared to four cylinder engines. Ducati Superbikes have incredible acceleration and provide outstanding riding thrills.
The suspension is fully adjustable at both ends and features a TiN-treated upside down Showa fork at the front and a Showa rear shock. Thanks to a wide steering angle (28.5 degree), the steering damper, adjustable headstock rake (from 23.5 degrees to 24.5 degrees) and foot rests that can be set at any of five different positions, the Ducati 749s can be adapted to suit individual riding styles. In addition, on the single-seat version, the seat-tank assembly is adjustable longitudinally by 20 millimeter, thus giving the rider the opportunity to personalize his or her riding position on the bike for track use.

|Showa Forks -An upside-down 43 millimeter Showa front fork with low friction TiN (Titanium-nitride) treatment and fully adjustable Showa rear shock allow for maximum road hold under changing conditions. TiN treatment minimizes stiction and improves overall suspension performance.|
|Front Brakes - Four-piston, four-pad “triple bridge” brake calipers with non-visible screws (racing type) 4.5 millimeter discs are set in a more outward position. The brake system is the result of advanced racing technology. Increased outward position improves brake cooling and therefore brake system efficiency. 4.5 millimeter thickness reduces unsprung weight and moment of inertia of the wheel, thus improving handling and steering.|
|Innovative Radiator - In this innovative double core radiator water inlet and outlet are both situated at the bottom on the same side. This improves ease of assembly and decreases the number of components. Moreover, it allows the installation of the majority of electronic parts on the left side of the motorcycle, allowing easier and faster servicing of the right side timing belts.|
|CAN Electronic Management - Electronic system management via CAN line technology (Controller Area Network) used by Ducati for the first time on a motorcycle. CAN line technology greatly simplify the electrical system by reducing the number of wires and connectors. The system reduces weight by 3.2 kilograms and makes servicing easier.|
|Immobilizer – Anti-theft immobilizer system for added security. The motorcycle can be started only if the individually programmed ignition key is used.|

|Brembo/Marchesini Wheels - Five-spoke Y-shaped wheel rims. Y-shaped spokes offer twice the rim bearing surfaces compared to “classic” five-spoke wheels. This improves stiffness-to-weight ratio.|
